This morning was chilly, so I decided it would be a great opportunity to make the classic scone recipe from the Disney Parks Cookbook. The recipe comes from the Garden View Tea Room at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. The recipe was easy to follow, and I had all the ingredients in my pantry. Here are the ingredients and instructions for the scones.

Classic Scones

Servings 40 (2 inch scones)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 3 eggs beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup golden raisins

Instructions

  • Preheat oven 425 degrees.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, sugar and salt into a large bowl.
  • Work margarine and shortening into flour with fingers until it resembles coarse meal.
  • Combine beaten eggs and milk in separate bowl.
  • Stir the eggs and milk mixture into the flour mixture until it just comes together.
  • Fold in the raisins.
  • Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  • Cut out 40 scones with 2 inch round cutter and transfer to lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Bake scones for 12-15 minutes or until light brown.
  • Serve while warm. Optional accompaniments Devonshire cream or butter and jam.

The original recipe called for golden raisins, but I substituted them with chocolate chips, as my kids prefer them. They were scrumptious!

I’d love to hear from you if you give this recipe a go, or if you’ve tried any other scone recipes. Feel free to drop me a comment and share your experience.
