5 Tips When Starting a New Blog

Starting a new blog can be daunting. Blogs today aren’t the blogs of the early 2000’s. If you want your blog to succeed, you need a blogging platform and a host. These can all be foreign words when first starting.

Back in the day, I had a blog. It was simple but a place to be creative and share my thoughts. I was overwhelmed by all the information when I returned to blogging. Blogs have progressed. Almost every recipe or how-to is from a blog. Blogging is even an occupation for some.

After I set up my platform, host, and domain name, I started googling how-to’s. How to set up a blog, how to design a blog, how to get my blog seen, etc. It has been quite the learning process. It took about two weeks for me to get everything set up before I could start writing my posts.

Here are five tips that will help you if you’re thinking of starting a blog.

1. Choose a platform: There are multiple platforms out there. Some examples are WordPress, Wix, Weebly, and Squarespace. Your website files will be stored and accessible to visitors on this platform.

2. Pick a domain name: A domain name is the address typed into the browser to access your website. Choose a name that is relevant to your niche and easy to remember.

3. Choose a theme: You can personalize your blog. The easiest way to get a professional-looking website is to invest in purchasing a theme. You can find themes on Etsy and Themeforest. Prices range from a few dollars to hundreds.

4. Learn about SEO: Search Engine Optimization is how a blog gets noticed and is vital to a blog’s success. Using keywords, descriptions, and tags drives traffic to your website.

5. Engage with your audience: Building a relationship with your audience is of the utmost importance. The audience is essential to growing your blog. Making sure to create content that is of interest, respond to comments, and engage on social media will foster that relationship.

Hopefully, these five tips will help you in your blogging endeavors. These were the top things I needed to learn first before starting mine.
